A blog by the Uruguayan Lion: BYU Historic Fantasy Draft

In early 2020 I joined with a handful of associates known and unknown to do a fantasy draft of BYU football players from 1980 to 2019. We selected just under 130 players from BYU past and present, over the course of 13 rounds, to fill out a team consisting of 1 QB, 2 RBs, 3 WRs, 1 TE, 2 DL, 2LBs, and 2 DBs. What a thrill having to decide between Austin Collie and Luke Staley with my #5 pick. What agony to have Rob Morris selected one pick before my third round selection! I had a blast.

The known associates included Devon "that's my quarterback" Smith, Danny "Tax Man" Davis, Andrew "you owe me a Star Wars sweatshirt" Metcalf, Brian "thanks for the 2008 UCLA ticket" Henderson, and finally Cousin Newt. The unknowns included newspaperer Jay Drew, a pair of loyal Cougarboarders named Odysseus and Magathisll, and finally someone we can't name because he dropped out in the third round. Hand over your Cougar card my friend. The rest of you I will love and adore forever for you refused to select Francis Bernard or Kyle Whittingham. Respect.

We did not draft offensive linemen or special teamers because why would we? Ok, in reality I would have liked to but getting nine people to stay involved in a remote draft that lasted about a month was like landing on the moon. To have added on another 3 or 4 players for OL and ST probably would have bogged us down too much.
